Who We Are

It all began with a desire to make a change in the lives of the less fortunate. One of the prevailing issues evident in Malaysia is poverty-stricken communities and the children who come from these communities. Due to their financial circumstances, living conditions are hard and adults have a hard time keeping their families together. Due to their circumstances, many of these children have difficulty in keeping up with their peers. Many of them are actually lagging behind in their level. And so under the leadership of Brian Geh, this project was set up to call in willing volunteers to help give these children a second chance at school.

RE:ED was only given its name later on after the project was sure to proceed and continue, and starting with a handful of volunteers, helping out and tutoring those children, the number of volunteers in re:ed has now grown to a fair size and it is our hope that it will continue to grow and expand. As at April 30, 2013, all volunteers are from the Department of Psychology. We hope that RE:ED will eventually grow to other departments as well and more volunteers will help out.

This project started with a few working adults in 2012 until the first volunteers from HELP came in. More volunteers from HELP University joined the project as more people knew about the project via word of mouth. There are students from Monash University helping out as well and it is our hope that more HELP University students will take an interest and be willing to help out these kids.
